Classic French Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 slices day-old, firm white bread
  • a little butter
  • Syrup, to serve

Preparation

Step 1

In a shallow pan, whisk together the milk and flour.
Whisk in eggs, vanilla and salt.
Soak the slices of bread in the egg mixture for 10-20 seconds each side, or until soaked through.
Heat a little butter in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat; add the bread, in batches if necessary.
Cover; cook the bread 2-3 minutes each side or until lightly browned.
Serve with butter and syrup.
