Old-Fashioned Apple Loaf

Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. apple pie spice (or substitute 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, dash of ground nutmeg and a dash of ground cloves)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2/3 c. chunky applesauce
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c. oil
  • 2 T. milk
  • 2 T. chopped walnuts
  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 4x8-inch loaf pan. Mix flour, baking powder, apple pie spice, salt and baking soda; set aside. Combine applesauce, sugar, eggs, oil and milk in large bowl. Add flour mixture. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer, just until combined. Pour into prepared loaf pan. Combine walnuts, butter and brown sugar in small mixing bowl. Mix with fork until crumbly. Sprinkle down center of loaf. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Immediately remove from pan.
