Ingredients

  • 1 ½ c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • ½ c. sugar
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • ½ t. salt
  • ½ t. cinnamon
  • ½ t. chopped walnuts
  • 1 large shredded, peeled apple
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ c. milk
  • 3 T. melted shortening or salad oil
  • ½ c. sour cream
  • ½ c. sugar

Preparation

Step 1

• Sift together flour, ½ c. sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Add nuts, saving out 2 T. for topping. Stir in apple.
• Blend together egg, milk, and shortening. Add to flour mixture, stirring just to mix. Turn into greased 9” round cake pan.
• Spoon sour cream over the top in spiral fashion, leaving center uncovered. Sprinkle remaining ½ c. sugar over top; scatter on remaining 2 T. nuts.
• Bake in hot oven (400) 30-35 minutes. Let cool slightly before cutting into wedges.

Best served warm. Also makes a good dessert.
