Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeas!
- 1 T. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. water
- 6 c. flour
- 1/2 c. cornmeal, for dusting pans
Preparation
Step 1
Combine yeast, sugar, salt and baking soda with 3 cups flour. Heat milk anti water until very warm (120° to 130°); add to dry mixture and beat well. Stir in remaining 3 cups flour to make a stiff batter. Spoon into 2 (8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch) pans, greased and sprinkled with cornmeal. Sprinkle tops with cornmeal and cover, let rise in warm place for 45 minutes.
Microwave: Reduce flour first to 3 cups and then to 2 cups. Mix and let rise as above: microwave each on HIGH POWER 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Surface will be flat and pale. Allow to rest 5 minutes before removing from pans.
Yield. 2 loaves: 32 servings.
Great bread for toasting, and done in microwave
