French Toast, Baked Stuffed Maple

Great Bread to use for this is Safeway's “Texas Toast” size maple bread loaf that I have used for this recipe, but any bread works. Chompie's also makes a Cinnamon Swirl Texas Toast (I found at Fry's)

Also, a personal preference, but I cut off the crust on the bread, then make those cubes small/medium rather than larger. Seems to absorb liquid better.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf white bread, cubed
  • 1 (8oz) package cream cheese, cubed
  • 8-12 eggs, depending on size
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

Line the bottom of an 11 x 13 inch pan with half of the bread cubes. Layer cream cheese cubes on top of bread. Arrange remaining bread cubes on top. In a large bowl, beat eggs, maple syrup and milk. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Next morning, bake in a preheated 350 degree oven until light golden brown, about 45 minutes. Makes 8 servings
