Deliciously melted American Cheese in a Fried Tasty sweet corn ball.

Surruilltos de Maiz con Queso/Corn fritters with cheese

  • 1¼ cups of cornmeal

  • 2 cups of milk (or water)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ cup of sugar to taste

  • ½ pound American Cheese cut into small ½ inch cubes (I prefer Kraft or deli American Cheese)

  • Frying oil


Boil milk, salt, sugar. On medium heat Add Cornmeal slowly, and continue to mix so no lumps form. When dough forms a ball and comes away from the edges of pot take off heat and cover. Let it cool for 15 minutes, or until able to handle. When dough is cool enough to handle, wet hands, keeping them moist. Make a cradle of dough about a tablespoon or so and then place a square of American Cheese in the center. Form into a ball. Set aside and continue with the rest of the dough, until no more is left. Heat oil and quickly fry, drain in napkins and enjoy!
