Queen of Tarts Apple Pie

By

This was mom’s Pillsbury Grand National Bakeoff recipe. She was so annoyed because the officials changed the name of the pie to Apple Cream Pie.

Ingredients

  • 1 C. Flour
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 C. Shortening
  • 3-4 Tbsp. Water
  • Apple Filling
  • 5 or 6 medium apples pared and quartered
  • 1 Tbsp lemon Juice
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 C. Flour
  • 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. Salt
  • 1 Cup cream

Preparation

Step 1

Combine flour with salt and cinnamon in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is size of small peas. Sprinkle water, a little at a time over mixture while tossing and stirring lightly with fork. Add water to driest particles, pushing lumps to side, until dough is moist enough to hold together. Put in 9 inch pie pan. Fill with filling. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then at 350 for 45-50 minutes.

Sprinkle lemon juice over apples. Place apples, round side up in pastry lined pan.

Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Sprinkle 3/4 C. over apples.

Pour cream over apples. Sprinkle with remaining brown sugar mixture.
