Ingredients
- 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- 1 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cups white sugar
- 1 cups milk
Preparation
Step 1
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes. In a 2 quart container glass, plastic, or ceramic container, combine 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand until bubbly.
Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. Leave loosely covered at room temperature.
Day 1: Begin or receive starter
Day 2: stir
Day 3: stir
Day 4: stir
Day 5: Add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk
Day 6: stir
Day 7: stir
Day 8: Do nothing
Day 9: Do nothing
Day 10: Add 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 1/2 cup flour, 1 1/2 cup milk.
After all 10 days are completed, put 1 cup of the starter in four separate gallon Ziploc bags. Give three to friends and keep one. If you put in Ziploc bags tell friends to "Burp" the bag each day to keep excess air out. Write the date on the bag. Tell friends to consider the date on the bag as Day 1.
When you're ready to bake your bread add the following ingredients to 2 cups of starter:
1 cup oil
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 eggs
1 large box or two small boxes vanilla pudding mix
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tsp. cinnamon + 3 Tbls. sugar for topping
Beat by hand until well blended. Grease two loaf pans and sprinkle with some of the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Bake at 325 degrees F for one hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. That's it. Have fun.

Lemon Poppy Seed (1 loaf):
Replace pudding with vanilla pudding
Replace vanilla extract with lemon extract
Add 2 tsp. lemon extract
Add 1/8 cup poppy seeds poppy seeds
Chocolate/Chocolate Chip (1 loaf):
Replace pudding with chocolate pudding
Add 2-3 Tbsp. cocoa powder
Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Peanut/Chocolate Chip (1 loaf):
Replace pudding with butterscotch pudding
Add 1/2 cup peanut butter
Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Orange/Cranberry (1 loaf):
Replace vanilla extract with orange extract
Add 2 tsp. orange zest
Add 1/2 cup dried cranberries
White Chocolate/Cherry (1 loaf):
Replace pudding with white chocolate pudding
Replace vanilla extract with almond extract
Add 1/4 cup chopped marachino cherries
Pistachio/Pineapple (1 loaf):
Replace pudding with pistachio pudding
Add 1 small can crushed pineapple
Add 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
