Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar

  • ½ lb (250g) lean ground beef

  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

  • ½ cup chopped fresh basil

  • ½ cup chopped fresh oregano

  • ½ cup chopped fresh parsley

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 4 cups chopped fesh plum tomatoes

  • 1 tsp granulated sugar

  • Salt and pepper

  • 1 bay leaf

Directions

1. In large saucepan, heat olive oil and vinegar. Add ground beef and brown, stirring constantly. 2. Add celery, onion and garlic, saute 2 to 3 min. Add herbs then stir in tomato paste, tomatoes and sugar. Season with salt and pepper, add bay leaf. 3. Lower heat and simmer, uncovered, for 1 1/2 hrs or to desired thickness.
