Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 3/4 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 dry bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Mushroom Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated onion
  • 2 tablesppon butter
  • 2 tablespoon flour
  • 1 can or jar mushroom
  • 1-1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon parsley
  • pepper to tast

Preparation

Step 1

Mix all ingredients and bake at 350 for 1-1/2 hour.

Carmelize Onions. Heat butter in a skillet adding onions and a small amount of sugar. Cook slowly over meadium heat. At the end of cooking, add a splash of red wine. Takes about 30minutes.

Sauce - Melt butter in skillet, blend in flour. Cook and stire over medium heat. Add mushrooms, broth, and water. Bring to a boil. Add onion, wine, and worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5minutes. Reduce to low heat and simmer until ready to serve.
