Swedish Rye Bread

Ingredients

  • Pour 2 Cups boiling water over:
  • 2 TBSP Shortening
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 1 or 2 TBSP molasses
  • 2 TBSP Carroway Seed
  • 2 Cups Rye Flour
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 4-5 cups white flour

Preparation

Step 1

pour 2 cups boiling water over all ingredients except yeast/white flour

activate yeast in 1/3 cup warm water

stir in flour
Turn out onto pastry board. Let "rest" ten minutes. Knead ten minutes. Place in greased bowl to rise 1 and 1/2 hours. Turn out. Let "rest" ten minutes. Shape into loaves. If two regular loaves, bake at 375 degrees 40 to 45 minutes. I make four round loaves on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 to 375 degrees 25-30 minutes.
