Preparation

Step 1

1. Pour food coloring in small shallow bowl. Place lollipop sticks in bowl, rolling them back and forth to cover with color. With tongs or slotted spatula, transfer them to a wire rack to dry.

2. Sprinkle sugar on sheet of waxed paper. Place a red or pink gumdrop on paper and cover with another piece of waxed paper.

3. Roll out gumdrop to form a long strip. To prevent the gumdrop from sticking to the paper, lift paper off several times while rolling and sprinkle with more sugar.

4. Cut gumdrops in half the long way and roll one strip up lengthwise. Pinch at bottom to open the “petals” and stand on end. Repeat with other strip and then repeat entire process with remaining gumdrops. To make roses more lifelike, pinch the petals out at the top so they look like they’re opening.

5. For leaves, roll out green gumdrops as above to create long strips. With the tip of a sharp knife, cut leaves of different sizes.

6. Stick flowers on the lollipop sticks and attach two leaves to the bottom of each rose.
