Ingredients
- 1 cup soft butter
- 1/2 cup each granulated sugar and brown sugar, packed
- 1 egg, separated
- 1 teaspoom vanilla or almond extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup chopped nuts
- Butter Frosting (recipe follows)
- Butter Frosting: In a skillet melt 1 1/2 tablespoons butter until butter browns slightly. Remove from heat. Beat in 1 cup podered sugar and 1/2 teasp. vanilla extract. Add enough milk to bring frosting to drizzling consistency.

Step 1
1. Combine butter and sugars in mixing bowl. Beat until creamy and fluffy. Add egg yolk, vanilla, flour, cardamom and salt. Mix well to form a soft dough.
2. Spread mixture in ungreased 10 by 15 inch baking pan. Brush surface with beaten egg white. Sprinkle evenly with nuts.
3. Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour.
4. Meanwhile, prepare frosting. Drizzle frosting on warm cookies. Cut into bars.
