1 cup soft butter
½ cup each granulated sugar and brown sugar, packed
1 egg, separated
1 teaspoom vanilla or almond extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
¼ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup chopped nuts
Butter Frosting (recipe follows)
Butter Frosting: In a skillet melt 1½ tablespoons butter until butter browns slightly. Remove from heat. Beat in 1 cup podered sugar and ½ teasp. vanilla extract. Add enough milk to bring frosting to drizzling consistency.
1. Combine butter and sugars in mixing bowl. Beat until creamy and fluffy. Add egg yolk, vanilla, flour, cardamom and salt. Mix well to form a soft dough. 2. Spread mixture in ungreased 10 by 15 inch baking pan. Brush surface with beaten egg white. Sprinkle evenly with nuts. 3. Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour. 4. Meanwhile, prepare frosting. Drizzle frosting on warm cookies. Cut into bars.
