Ingredients

  • CREAM TOGETHER
  • 1/2 cup shortening (crisco)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp butter flavor (can buy butter flavored crisco)
  • MIX INTO A PASTE
  • 3 Tbsp Cocoa
  • 1 bottle (1 1/2oz) Red Food Color
  • ADD TO ABOVE MIXTURE
  • 2 1/2 cups Cake Flour (I have used regular flour and fine)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp soda

Preparation

Step 1

Blend and pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans. Can use a sheath pan if you don't want to layer the cakes.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes
Let cool and frost.

FROSTING

Cook in saucepan
3 Tbsp Flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk
Cook until thick, then let cool

Cream separately
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp butter flavor (or use butter flavor crisco)
Combine both mixtures and beat well until smooth
and frost cake.
