Ingredients
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 pound brown sugar (2 1/4 cups)
- 1 dash salt
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 15 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1
1. Melt butter or margarine is a 3 quart heavy sauce pan. Add brown sugar and salt. Mix well, stir in corn syrup, mix well.
2. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, stirring constantly.
3. Cook over medium heat to a firm ball stage (245°F), 12 – 15 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour into buttered 9 x 9 pan. Cool and cut into cubes.
For chocolate caramels, add 2 one ounce squares unsweetened chocolate with milk.
