Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Granulated sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar, egg, and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients except for granualted sugar. Cover; chill 1 hour.

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Dip balls into sugar. Place balls 3 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or just until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
