Ingredients
- 28 oz. whole peeled tomatoes (hand crushed with juices)
- 28 oz. tomato sauce
- 28 oz. crushed tomato
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. garlic salt
- 1 Tbsp. basil flakes
- 1 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 cup mushrooms, diced
- 1 cup bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup onion, diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lb. ground beef (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
In a large pot over medium heat, add all tomato products and spices and stir well. Let come to a simmer, reduce heat and continue cooking over low heat until veggies are done.
In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, add olive oil, mushrooms, bell peppers, onion and a few pinches of salt and pepper. Sauté until tender, then add directly to tomato mix. If you're making a marinara, you're done. Simply let all ingredients simmer together for about 15 minutes, taste for seasoning adjustments (if any) and serve.
If you want to make this a meat sauce, simply fry 1 lb. ground beef with a few pinches of salt and pepper, then drain fat and add to tomato mix. Allow the meat to simmer (covered) for about 30 minutes over low heat. Stir occasionally, then serve.
