Ingredients
- 1/3 C flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 C brown sugar, firmly packed (or 3/4 C sugar)
- 1 # chopped dates
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 C nuts
Preparation
Step 1
Sift flour. Measure and mix with baking powder and salt. Sift again. Mix in nuts & dates. Beat egg yolks with 1/2 sugar until thick. Add vanilla. Fold in flour mixture. Beat egg whites until stiff. Gradually beat in remaining sugar. Fold into flour misture.
Pous into greased 9" layer cake pan, 1 1/2" deep or 8" square pan.
Bake at 325 °F for 40-50 minutes or until it springs back when tapped with fingers.
