SNICKERDOODLES (MRS. SIGG'S)

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsps vanilla extrct
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsps cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsps white sugar
  • 3 tsps ground cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Cream together the butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. By hand, blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.

Mix the 3 tablespoons of sugar and 3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. Roll balls of dough in mixture, or place cinnamon and sugar in a sandwich baggie and drop in one cookie at a time to coat. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake 8 minutes or until set but not too hard. Let cool on cookie sheets for a few minutes and remove to rack.
