  • 2 1/2 cups self rising flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or shortening
  • 3/4 to 1 c. milk

Step 1

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Stir together flour and sugar. Cut in the shortening or butter then slowly add milk mixing the flour into the shortening/butter. Kneed the dough until smooth. You may have a little flour around the edges of the bowl remaining. Roll the dough into a ball between floured hand to form a small ball. Pat the balls flat with one motion into a greased pan with one motion. Place patted dough into pans allowing flattened dough to touch. bake 10 to 12 minutes on middle rack until bottoms are brown. Turn on broiler and brown tops for 2 to 3 minutes.
