Sweet and Sour Pork

Ingredients

  • 3/4 C sugar
  • 1/4 C soy sauce
  • 1/3 C vinegar
  • 2/3 C water
  • 3 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2# pork (bite sized pieces)
  • 1 C water
  • 1/4 C onion, coarsely chopped
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can pineapple chunks with juice
  • 2 green peppers, cut into bite size chunks

Preparation

Step 1

Make sauce in advance using first 5 ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thick and glossy. Set aside. Boil pork in 1 C water until tender, about 20 minutes. While meat is cooking, saute onion and green pepper in 2 Tbsp oil. Toss meat in this and fry until crisp. Drain and add to the sauce along with tomato paste, pineapple with juice. Cook until heated through. Serve over rice or as an appetizer kep warm in chafing dish.
