Ingredients

  • butter 1 cupss , softened
  • sugar 1 cup
  • eggs 2
  • flour 3 cups
  • baking cocoa 1 tablespoon
  • salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon
  • nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon , ground
  • cloves 1/8 teaspoon , ground
  • almonds 2 cups ground
  • powdered sugar 3 tablespoons
  • Favorite Jams

Preparation

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine the flour, cocoa, salt and spices gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
Stir in almonds.
***Refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle.***

Preheat oven to 350°
On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness.
Cut with a floured star cookie cutter.
From the center of half the cookies cut out a smaller star.
Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
Remove to wire rack to cool.

Spread the bottom of each solid cookie with 1/2 tsp. jam.
Sprinkle the cutout cookie with powered sugar and carefully place over jam.
