    cup buttermilk

    eggs, lightly beaten

    cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • ½

    cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • cup water

  • Glaze

    cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

  • ½

    cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1

    teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2

    cups powdered sugar

  • ¼

    cup buttermilk or more, for desired spreadability

  • 1

    cup chopped pecans, toasted optional

Directions

oven 350 degrees grease 9x13 baking pan. set aside. in large bowl, combine four, sugar and baking soda. in a medium bowl stir together buttermilk, eggs and vanilla. in top of a double boiler, combine butter, cocoa powder and water, and heat until butter is melted: stir to combine. Add butter mixture and egg mixture to flour mixture. Stir by hand until well mixed. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 40-545 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool in pan while preparing the Glaze. Glaze In medium heavy bottomed saucepan over medium heat melt butter and stir in cocoa powder and vanilla until well blended. add the powdered sugar. whisk to combine and add buttermilk until it has smooth pourable consistency Release cake from the pan onto a serving plate. Pour warm glaze over the cake. allow the cake to soak it up. top with pecans.
