Cornbread: Truly Southern Cornbread

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons hot bacon grease, divided
  • 1 3/4 cups self-rising cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (mix with buttermilk)
  • 1 egg

Preparation

Step 1

Heat 1 tablespoon bacon grease in iron skillet. Mix remaining ingredients together well, and pur into hot
grease. Bae at 450 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until
golden brown.
