Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups raw peanuts
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/3 cup Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)

Step 1

Spread peanuts evenly in a metal baking pan at least 13x9 inches. Bake in a 350 degree oven about 20 minutes, or until lightly toasted.

In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water and salt and heat till sugar is dissolved. Stir sugar mixture into hot peanuts. Bake 35 minutes more, stirring occasionally.

Gradually blend the cocoa into the condensed milk, stirring till mixture is smooth. Stir into peanut mixture. Bake about 20 minutes more, or until the coating is almost dry, stirring frequently. It will crisp as it cools. Immediately transfer peanuts to another container, stirring to separate them. Cool. Makes about 5 cups.
