Mutti's German Stuffing

By

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf old bread cut into 1" cubes (fresh bread can also be used; spread the bread out in a single layer and leave overnight or heat in a 300 degree oven for about 15 minutes)
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 4 stalks celery,finely chopped
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 small bunch Italian parsley, washed and coarsely chopped
  • 4 teaspoons minced garlic
  • French's Mustard to taste
  • salt and pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté onions and celery until soft, about 5 minutes. Add cream of mushroom soup and mustard and mix well.

Remove from heat; add remaining ingredients, stirring well. Adjust the amount of bread/liquid to produce a moist stuffing that is not runny.

Spread stuffing in an oven pan or dish. Allow to sit for 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees, covered with parchment and tin foil for 30 minutes. Remove cover and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until nicely browned on top.

Let stuffing sit for 10 minutes before serving.

** This recipe can be doubled, tripled, etc. You may wish to add roasted pine nuts or chopped pecans for added texture.
