Ingredients

  • BREAD:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest (grated lemon peel)
  • 1 1/3 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • GLAZE:
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F . Grease bottoms of two 9-inch loaf pans.
Mix together flour, salt, baking powder, poppy seeds, lemon juice, lemon zest, oil, eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla. Pour into prepared pans.
Bake for 50 minutes - 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes.

GLAZE:
Mix orange juice, lemon juice and vanilla extract. Add enough confectioners' sugar to make a glaze.

Poke a few small holes in the top of the loaves and pour glaze over.
