Caramel Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box Duncan Hines butter cake mix
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 stick butter
  • 2/3 c water
  • Caramel Icing
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 c. Pet milk (I use whatever evaporated milk I have)
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 stick butter

Preparation

Step 1

Follow package instructions for cake. Allow to cool.

In the top of double boiler, mix 2 ½. c of the sugar with the Pet milk. Add salt. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring the entire time. Remove from heat.

Pour ½. c sugar into black iron skillet (I use a hard anodized aluminum pan) and caramelize it. To carmelize is to melt the sugar over medium heat – stirring constantly until the syrup turn a golden brown. This can burn, so be careful!
