Ingredients

  • Meringue:
  • 3-4 heaping (or 6 level) T. flour
  • 3 T. cocoa
  • 1 c. sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 egg yolks (save whites)
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 T. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 9-in. pastry shell, baked
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 4 T. sugar
  • 1 drop vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Mix flour, cocoa, sugar and salt. Stir in egg yolks; add milk. Cook in double boiler until mixture is thick. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. Pour into pastry shell and top with meringue. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

Meringue:
Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff. Add sugar and vanilla. Add to pie and brown.
