Indian Fry Bread

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 cup powdered milk
  • 1 cup warm water
  • oil to cover pan

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together flour, salt, baking powder and powdered milk in a large bowl. Make a well in mixture with a spoona nd add water. Stir gently, not scraping the sides of the bowl. Cover with towel and let set for five minutes. Add enough oil to fill fry pan halfway up sides. Heat. Check if grease is hot enough by pinching a piece of dough and dropping in the pan. pat half a handful of dough into a doughnut-like shape. Place 3 or 4 in the pan at one time. Fry until golden brown, turning once. Serve with butter or jam, or Serve with cinnamon and sugar, or Serve with meat mixture, tomatoes, lettuce and sauce for a Fry Bread taco.
