  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 T milk
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 dozen Chocolate Kisses or Mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

Step 1

In large bowl, beat shortening, peanut butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar and the brown sugar until mixture is creamy. Beat in eggs, milk and vanilla in same bowl.

Shift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the shortening mixture. Blend thoroughly.

Roll dough into 1 inch balls and roll balls in remaining granulated sugar to coat evenly. Place cookie balls, 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375oF for 8 minutes.

Unwrap candy kisses or cups. Remove cookies from oven and quickly top each cookie with a candy kiss or cup. Make sure to press the candy down until the cookie cracks around the edges. Return to oven and bake for another 2-5 minutes until lightly browned and chocolate is softened. Transfer cookies to racks and cool completely. Make sure to store in airtight container.
