DUTCH OVEN POTATOES AND ONIONS

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bacon cut into 1” pieces
  • 14 potatoes
  • 5 onions
  • ¼ cup bacon grease (from cooking bacon)
  • 1 cup water

Step 1

Peel and slice potatoes in ¼ inch slices. Set aside. Fry bacon in bottom of a 14” Dutch oven. Add potatoes and onions and stir to coat with the bacon grease. Pour in water and season with salt and pepper. Bake for about 60 minutes using 14 briquettes on top and 6 to 8 briquettes on the bottom. Check regularly and stir carefully if needed, every 20 minutes. Hint: You can add in 2 cups mild cheddar cheese and ½ cup green onions for the last 20 minutes of cooking time. This gives it an entirely different taste that will melt in your mouth.
