Ingredients
- 1 can condensed consomme
- 2 Tbs. flour
- 1 1 lb can tomatoes
- 2 stalks celery, trimmed and diced
- 1 large green pepper
- 1 me. onion
- 1 pkg. frozen okra
- 2 lbs. fresh shrimp, shelled and deveined. can use leftover turkey and a ham hock instead of shrimp.
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. white pepper
- 1 tsp. file powder
- 3 cups cooked rice

Remember if you are using turkey you can use the leftover turkey broth, great after thanksgiving.
Combine consomme with water to make 2 cups. Reserve 1/2 cup for later and blend withg flour. Stir into kettle. Heat stirring constantly until mixture thickens slightly, and boil for 1 min. Stir tomatoes, breaking apart large pieces; add celery, green pepper, onion, okra, shrimp or meat, salt and pepper. Heat to boiling. cover and simmer for one hour. Serve over rice in bowl, adding a small bit of file powder to each bowl. File powder should not be reheated. It can be found in gourmet food stores
