Agnes’s Chocolate Cake

Agnes says this is her favorite cake and she and Larry ate it all the time. The recipe card she wrote for me included the following explanation:
tsp=teaspoon
tbsp=tablespoon
...as though I am from another country.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsweetened bakers chocolate
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 2 tbsp.vinegar

Preparation

Step 1

Combine chocolate, cold water and butter in pan and bring to boil.
Mix flour, sugar, baking soda and baking powder in bowl.
Stir chocolate mixture into dry ingredients.
Add eggs (beaten), vanilla, and skim milk (soured by 2 tbsp vinegar).
Pour all into greased 8 by 12 ½ pyrex dish and bake at 350 for 30 min.
