Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. Shortening
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 lb. Ground beef
  • 1 lb. 12-oz. Can tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. Sugar
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Celery salt
  • 1/8 tsp. Pepper
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire or soy sauce
  • 8 oz. Macaroni
  • Chopped parsley
  • Grated American cheese (optional)

Step 1

Melt shortening, add onion, celery and pepper. Saute until tender. Add, meat and cook until browned, pouring off excess fat. Add tomatoes, salt, celery salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce or soy. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cook macaroni and drain. Add to meat mixture, turn into, 1-½ quart casserole and bake at 350 about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley and cheese and bake about 5 minutes longer.
