Turkey in a Smoker

Ingredients

  • 1 (10lb) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
  • 2 tbsp soft butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 sprig rosemary, stem removed
  • 1 tbsp lemon pepper
  • 2 tbsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 small apple, quartered
  • 1 small onion, quartered
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ground black pepper
  • 1 (12oz) can cola

Preparation

Step 1

1. Rinse turkey with cold water and pat dry. Place in roasting pan. Stick soft butter, garlic and rosemary between the meat and skin of the turkey breast. Sprinkle turkey with lemon pepper and seasoned salt.

2. Place butter, apple, onion, garlic powder, salt and pepper inside cavity of bird. Grab the can and get ready to put the bird in the smoker.

3. Prepare smoker and set to 225F and set timer for 9-10 hours (not quite an hour/lb). Place pan in smoker and pour cola inside cavity. Loosely top with foil and close smoker.

4. Baste ever 3 hours (or so) when checking wood chips. Turkey is done with meat thermometer reads 180 in thickest park of thigh.
