Preparation

Step 1

1. In a cocktail shaker, combine bourbon, lemon juice, blackberry rosemary syrup, and ice. Shake until chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into an ice filled glass. Top with sparkling lemonade. Garnish with a few blackberries.

Blackberry Rosemary Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 12 ounces fresh blackberries (about 2 cups), 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, 1/4 cup sugar, and 3/4 cup water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until the blackberries break down and liquid reduces to half. Using a wooden spoon, mash blackberries until broken up. Remove from heat; cool. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a jar, pressing the fruit against the strainer. Discard fruit. Store cooled syrup in refrigerator for up to one week.

Big Batch Option: In a punch bowl, combine 3 cups bourbon, 2/3 cup lemon juice, and 1 recipe blackberry rosemary syrup. Add 4 cups chilled sparkling lemonade. Garnish with frozen blackberries, if desired.
