Preparation

Step 1

Beat sugar, shortening, and salt. Add milk, 2 cups of flour and yeast dissolved in warm water. Beat for another minute. Slowly add remaining flour until too hard to beat. Mix remaining flour by hand. Turn out dough on floured counter. Knead for 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning so that all of the dough is greased. Cover the dough with a towel and let rise until doubled in size.

Filling: Melt 1/3 cup butter or margarine and spread around the bottom of a 9x13x2 in pan. Sprinkle 1 1/3 cups light brown sugar in pan.

On lightly floured surface, roll dough into a rectangular shape a half-inch thick. Spread a half stick of butter on dough. Sprinkle heavily with cinnamon. Sprinkle with a half cup of light brown sugar. Roll dough and slice into 12 buns. Place in pan. Cover and let rise double in size.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes, or until medium brown. Let sit two minutes on counter, then flip onto tray. Scraping bottom of pan.
