Ingredients
- 1 ½ lbs. of small white onions
- 1 ½ lbs. of small red onions
- 2 tablespoons of salt
- water
- 3 cups of white vinegar
- ½ cups of sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons of cloves
- bay leaves
Preparation
Step 1
1. Sprinkle the onions with the salt and let stand in water for 2 hours.
2. Drain and peel.
3. Let dip in water for 48 hours and add 1 tablespoon of salt.
4. Drain and rinse.
5. Bring the vinegar and 1 cup of water, sugar and clove to a boil.
6. Add onions and boil 3-5 minutes.
7. Take the cloves out and pour in sterilized jars.
8. Cover with vinegar, and add 1 bay leaf.
9. Let stand one month before using. (makes 3 pints)
