Ingredients
- * For the simple syrup:
- 1 * 1 cup sugar
- 1 * 1 cup water
- 2 * 2 whole star anise
- 2 * 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 * 3 cloves

- * To serve:
- 1 * 1 ripe fig plus more for garnish, or 1 tablespoon fig preserves
- 2 * 2 ounces Famous Grouse whisky
- 1/2 * 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

For the spiced simple syrup: In a small saucepan, dissolve the sugar in the water over medium-low heat. Add star anise, cinnamon sticks and cloves, and let sit off of the heat for 1 hour. Strain into clean bottle. (The syrup will keep, tightly sealed and refrigerated, for up to 2 weeks.)
To serve: In a cocktail shaker, muddle 1 fig or 1 tablespoon of fig preserves in 1/2 ounce of the spiced simple syrup. Add ice, whiskey, and lemon juice. Shake for 10 seconds and strain through fine-mesh sieve into Champagne coup. Garnish with slice of fig (if available) or lemon twist.
