Ingredients

  • 2 tbl. margarine
  • 2 med. onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • salt, pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 14 oz. can tomatoes
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1 sm. can kidney beans or
  • 1 sm. can sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 c. wheat germ (optional)
  • chopped jalapeno or hot sauce to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Saute onion and garlic in margarine. Add meat and cook until brown. Drain fat as needed. Add remaining ingredients. Stir and simmer uncovered 30 minutes.

If desired, garnish with shredded cheddar or monterey jack cheese, sour cream, sliced jalapenos, or chopped onion and serve with garlic bread or tortilla chips.
