Ingredients
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt

Preparation
Step 1
Into a large bowl measure all ingredients. With a mixer at medium speed, beat ingredients until well mixed. Cover and chill for 1 hour.
On lightly floured surface with floured rolling pin, roll chilled dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter.
Place 1/2 inch apart on parchment paper on cookie sheet. Bake 8 minutes or until browned.
Cool before decorating
