Ingredients
- 3 cups Sliced peaches, canned or fresh
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 Tbl lemon juice
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 Tbl sugar
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 well-beaten egg
- 2 Tbl sugar

Step 1
Arrange peaches in a greased, 8 inch square pan. sprinkle with with mixture of 1/4 cup sugar, lemon juice, lemon peel and almond extract. Heat in oven while preparing shortcake. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar in shortening until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Add milk and egg at once and stir just until flour is moistened. Spread dough over hot peaches. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoon sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
