Macaroon Kiss Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 package (3 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 t. almond extract
  • 2 t. orange juice
  • 1-1/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 5 c. (14 oz) flaked coconut
  • one 9oz package mild chocolate kisses (about 54)

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter or margarine, cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk, almond extract, and orange juice; beat well. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture until well blended. Stir in 3 cups flaked coconut. Cover dough and chill about 1 hour. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in remaining coconut; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 deg. for 10-12 min. or until lightly browned on bottom. Remove form oven and press a milk chocolate kiss into center of each cookie. Allow to cool one minute. Carefully remove cookies from sheet and cool until chocolate kiss is firm.
