Ingredients
- 1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 c. milk
- 1 c. cornmeal
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. melted butter
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 4 hot dogs, sliced into 1" pieces
- 2 c. vegetable oil
- Ketchup, for serving
- Mustard, for serving
Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup flour, milk, cornmeal, sugar, melted butter, egg and baking powder. Stir until smooth and season with salt and pepper.
Roll hot dogs in remaining flour and then into the cornbread mixture.
In a pot or skillet with high sides, add enough oil to be 2” deep. Heat to 350° and fry bites until they are golden on the outside and cooked on the inside, about 4 minutes. Place on a paper towel to drain.
Serve with ketchup and mustard if desired.
