Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1 pkg Baker's German Chocolate
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 cup butter or shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg yolks, unbeaten
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp soda
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 egg whites
- Frosting:
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/3 cup coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans

Step 1
Cake:
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time. Beat after each. Add chocolate and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks. Fold into batter. Bake in 3 8" or 9" pans or as large loaf. 350 for 35-40 min.
Frosting:
Cook until thick, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and pecans. Beat until thick.
