    pkg Baker's German Chocolate

  • 1/2

    cup boiling water

  • 1

    cup butter or shortening

  • 2

    cups sugar

  • 4

    egg yolks, unbeaten

  • 1

    tsp vanilla

  • 1/2

    tsp salt

  • 1

    tsp soda

  • 2 1/2

    cups cake flour

  • 1

    cup buttermilk

  • 4

    egg whites

  • Frosting:

  • 1

    cup evaporated milk

  • 1

    cup sugar

  • 3

    egg yolks

  • 1/4

    cup margarine

  • 1

    tsp vanilla

  • 1 1/3

    cup coconut

  • 1

    cup chopped pecans

Directions

Cake: Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time. Beat after each. Add chocolate and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks. Fold into batter. Bake in 3 8" or 9" pans or as large loaf. 350 for 35-40 min. Frosting: Cook until thick, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and pecans. Beat until thick.
