FABULOUS FRENCH TOAST

The sugar on the outside of the bread carmelizes to form a very delicious French toast. Recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.

Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 slices bread
  • Maple syrup or powdered sugar for serving
  • Optional: 1 cup cubed fresh fruit for topping

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter in a griddle or heavy skillet. Place over medium heat. Combine 6 Tbsp. granulated sugar & 1/2 tsp. cinnamon on plate. Set aside. Mix eggs, milk, 1/4 tsp. sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and vanilla in a shallow bowl. Dip bread in mixture, coating both sides. Dredge both sides in cinnamon-sugar mixture, shaking off excess. Brown bread on both sides of griddle, about 5 minutes on each side. Serve immediately with maple syrup or dust with powdered sugar & serve with fruit topping.
