Bean soup

  • 1 lb navy beans
  • 2 quarts water
  • meaty ham bone
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • black pepper
  • galic salt

Preparation

Step 1

Thoroughly wash beans. Add water and they are better if soaked over night, but it works not to soak them, also. Add ham bone, one onion bay leaf and some black pepper( alittle garlic salt is good, too) Cover and simmer about 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Remove ham from bone and add to soup. It is good to add catsup in the bowl and serve it with cornbread.Very inexpensive. If you don't have a hame bone , but 2 ham hocks.
